How To Soothe an Upset Stomach with Ginger

An upset stomach can be caused by so many things ranging from food poisoning to gastritis. There are also so many ways to deal with it while soothing the symptoms in the process.

You can choose to place a hot compress on your tummy, eat a cracker, do some breathing exercises, or just relax.

If you want to try out another remedy, you can try ingesting ginger in its many forms. Ginger is a tropical plant whose root works wonders in treating stomach problems.

It has volatile oils that aid in relieving digestive discomfort. It has been known to treat indigestion, nausea, and stomach upset. Here are some ginger recipes that you can try out.

Try chewing on raw or candied ginger

Slice the ginger root very finely and pop a piece in your mouth every hour. This should help calm your tummy and even clear bacteria from your mouth.

If this is too hot for you, you can always make yourself a batch of candied gingers. Get a pound of fresh ginger and peel it.

Slice thinly and place the pieces in a deep saucepan. Put enough water to completely submerge all the pieces. Cook the sliced ginger for about half an hour on medium flame.

Drain the water off using a sieve or strainer and put the ginger pieces in a cup that attaches to a weighing scale. Measure the same amount of sugar and put this in the saucepan together with the ginger slices.

Add three tablespoon of water. Let the mixture boil for a few minutes then bring the heat down. Continue cooking until the ginger slices turn transparent and almost all of the liquid has already evaporated.

Stir the mixture constantly. Remove the ginger from heat and let it cool for a few minutes. Spoon in a few teaspoons of sugar and toss the ginger to coat the pieces evenly.

Brew a pot of ginger tea

Get two pieces of the ginger root. Each should be about an inch long. Peel them and slice into thin strips. Boil a pot of water then remove the pot from the stove.

Put the sliced ginger strips into the pot and let it sit there for about five minutes. Grab a strainer and strain the ginger tea.

Let the tea cool for a few minutes before sipping it slowly. If you want your drink to be a bit sweet, just add honey to the mixture. You can also try steeping mint leaves with the mixture.

Make a batch of ginger and vegetable juice

If you have joined the legions of households who bought a juicer, incorporating ginger into your diet is now more convenient.

Get the juice from half a lemon and three oranges before tossing a small piece of ginger into the juicer. Add a few drops of honey.

Dilute this vegetable juice concentrate before drinking. You can also try adding ginger to carrot juice.

Incorporating ginger in your diet will not only alleviate stomach discomfort, it should also relieve other body pains and acts as an expectorant.

Try adding ginger in your fish dishes, soups, and stir-fries. If the discomfort of an upset stomach lingers and your symptoms worsen, stop your ginger intake and contact your doctor immediately.
